Was it cold up there?
Did you feel alone?
Was the silence too much to bear?
Have you lost your mind?
Or did you just leave it behind?
Your eyes were glazed over, I couldn’t get to you, we were right next to one another yet you were still so far away.
Part of me thinks you left your heart in outer space because you couldn’t handle seeing the monstrosities our world has shown you day after day.
“In outer space everything is so… peaceful,” you whispered to me one night and that is when placed my head against your chest.
Silence.
Your heart, it beats up there in outer space, a steady ‘lub-dub‘ sound filling the emptiness.
Sometimes when I shut my eyes and hold my breath whilst listening to the cold night air I think I can hear it up there.
One day I hope we can escape together, we’ll get your heart back and we’ll drift in outer space till the day our hearts stop beating.
Forever drifting.
